I bought this and am reasonably pleased
- Installation was easy with Windows 2000 and I performance is good.
As the previous reviewer said, it is let down by the need for an external power supply but I can live with that

I suggest this product is far superior to burning CDs for anyone who has a large volume of data to back up

Close, but no cigar

I agree that as an external hard drive, this piece of equipment is as good as anything. It is (relatively) cheap, small and lightweight and holds an awful lot of data. Sadly, the USB functionality has a major drawback which is not mentioned on the packaging. To use the USB version, you need the HD plugged into the mains. One of the main reasons people buy external HDs is to have access to files whilst in transit. For this purpose, the Iomega is, sadly, useless. I wonder why the HD needs an external power supply, as every other piece of USB compatible hardware I use runs off the machines power. If this had been mentioned on the box, I would have purchased another product.

Almost a Winner

Ive just tried the Iomega USB 20Gb HDD. Its a nice product, and will provide a much-needed file transfer function between various PCs and laptops in my organisation. Speed is adequate on a laptop using USB 1.1 (not the maximum this USB 2.0 enabled drive can provide).

Installation on XP is a breeze, no drivers required. It does what it says on the box, and would have been given a clear 5 out of a possible 5 had there been no need for an external power cable. This is its only drawback as far as I can see and is a limitation of the USB specification rather than any specific failing on the behalf of Iomega.

If you have a need to transfer data between PCs and you have at least USB 1.1 connectors on all of them, buy this and you wont be disappointed.
