An easy, enjoyable read with adorable characters  |
(I dont normally do reviews as Ive no skill for it, but I love this series from Alex Sanchez so much that I had to write something).Rainbow High picks up where the previous book Rainbow Boys left off, and, for my money, is even better. I havent laughed so much while reading another novel. Nor has another work of fiction encouraged me to grasp the very real implications and possible results of being completely true to oneself and honest with others. Nelson Glassman has to be my favourite teen character Ive ever come across in literature or TV, for his wit, bloody-mindedness, honesty, and outrageousness - not to mention his endearing naivity at times. (His worrying if there was a rule that the person who pays for the coffee gets to do the dumping, still cracks me up.) All three of the main characters in the book are so real, multi-faceted and down-right likeable, yet theyre completely different from one another.
A great book that I will no doubt read again and again ... I doubt anyone could dislike this book (nor the previous one). Hopefully Sanchez will bless us with a third in the series.

Having loved the TV series of the same name I was quite disappointed with the book. For starters some of Jays style ideas seemed pretty strict and geared to a Briget Jones style - for 30something women. Im 22 and would like something that really shows your personality more! Then Traceys body language tips seemed completely open to interpretation. Not sure how on earth I could put any to use in a crowded bar, dating sceario, where things happen so quickly. In fact Im sure it would distract me from conversation to think about those things. I think jeremy cam up with some good communication advice. But in the end Im not convinced. Probably shouldve spent the money on some make-up.

I had high hopes when I bought would like to... but these were soon dashed when I found how condescending the authors are. I mean it appeared to be aimed at 12 year olds! The so called advice was the most basic common sense. From what Jeremy says about communicating to Tracys so called knowledge to the most obvious of all being Jays advice about style and clothes. I think I can get a dating life better chatting with friends. If you have no friends maybe youll learn something otherwise look for another dating book and hopefully it wont be aimed at juveniles.
