Viola, rushed home as fast as her legs could carry her. Meanwhile at
the entry of Sebastian, Antonio thought he returned and said,
'Now, sir, have I met with you again? There's for you' and struck him
a blow. Sebastian was a swift warrior and returned the blow with interest.
Olivia stopped the duel. But she mistook Sebastian to be Cesario and
invited him to her house.
She expressed regret at the sudden attack Sebastian had to face. The
latter was surprised, yet willingly entered the house.
Olivia was in different thoughts though. She suddenly found Cesario
(who was actually Sebastian) much more courteous and gentlemanly. Sebastian
did not object to the fondness that the lady lavishly spent on him.
But he had the thought hovering all over his mind that Olivia had no
clue what she was doing.
Olivia was in all spirits to shower her love on the so-called Cesario
and this did not escape the eyes of Sebastian.
Olivia intended to get married immediately with the fear that the harmony
would be disrupted otherwise. Oblivious of whatever was going on, Sebastian
gave his consent to this glorious ceremony.
The rituals were done and they were married. Sebastian was dying to
tell this to his dear fried Antonio.
In the meantime, Orsino came to visit Olivia. That very moment, the
officers of justice brought their prisoner Antonio before the Duke. Viola
a.k.a Cesario was with her master, the Duke.
On seeing Viola, whom he still considered to be Sebastian, he narrated
the entire tale of how he saved Sebastian from the clutches of death
and how ungrateful was Sebastian to him in return.
Lady Olivia
appeared. The Duke lost interest in Antonio's story. He said, "Here
comes the countess, now Heaven walks on earth! But for thee, fellow,
thy
words are madness.
Three months has this youth attended on me': and then he ordered Antonio
to be taken aside.
But Orsino's heavenly countess soon gave the duke cause to accuse Cesario
as much of ingratitude as Antonio had done, for all the words he could
hear Olivia speak were words of kindness to Cesario, and when he found
his page had obtained this high place in Olivia's favour, he threatened
him with all the terrors of his just revenge; and as he was going to
depart, he called Viola to follow him, saying: 'Come, boy, with me.
My thoughts are ripe for mischief.'
